The power of photography in love and loss
Ben sadly lost his wife Ali when his daughter Olivia was only one. After a tough two years he decided that it was time to leave their home in Cincinnati which he had bought with Ali and and start the next journey in their lives. Before leaving the house for good, Ben wanted a lasting memory so asked family photographer Melanie Pace to take some photos of himself and Olivia. Four years beforehand, Ali and Ben had finalised the purchase of the house the day before they were to get married, so decided to have a number of their photos within their empty home. Looking at many of the recreated photos side by side with the originals. you can’t help but be taken in by some of the obvious emotion shared between the separate images.
“Many people have asked me how I felt while doing that photo session,” Ben said. “What I want them to know is that this isn’t a story about grief and loss and hurt. Yes, I’ve gone through those emotions and still do but that’s not what I want people to see in these photos. This is a story about love.”
